We put together an extensive list of snacks that have been discontinued over the years. Don’t get too nostalgic; most of these foods will never return.

BUTTERFINGER BB’S

Butterfinger BB’s were introduced in 1992. They were tiny, poppable versions of the classic Butterfinger candy bar.

These mini-me’s were popular throughout the 90s.

The product was discontinued in 2006 due to issues with the chocolate coating melting too quickly.

A mess we all miss.

MR. T CEREAL

Quaker Oats manufactured Mr. T Cereal from 1984 to 1993. The cereal capitalized on Mr. T’s popularity on shows like The A-Team and Rocky III.

The food had a lot of appeal to children with its T-shaped pieces and catchy slogans.

The cereal was likely discontinued due to the waning popularity of Mr. T by the early 1990s.

CRISPY M&M'S

Crispy M&M’s were introduced in 1999 as a limited-edition flavor.

The crispy treat was discontinued in the U.S. in 2005 despite its popularity.

However, overwhelming public demand temporarily brought back Crispy M&M’s in 2015.

CINNA-CRUNCH PEBBLES

Cinna-Crunch Pebbles was a cinnamon-flavored cereal introduced in 1998. It was part of the Pebbles brand, known for its sweetened oat, corn, and wheat blend.

It was taken off the shelves in 2001 after a brief three-year run due to poor sales.

JELLO PUDDING POPS

Jell-O Pudding Pops, frozen pudding on a stick, was introduced to the market in the 1970s and was a huge hit.

The dessert sold $100 million worth of boxes in its first year.

Jell-O discontinued Pudding Pops in 2004 due to the high costs of making and storing frozen pudding.

SHOCK TARTS

Shock Tarts, later known as Wonka Shock Tarts, were a popular sour candy in the 1990s. Kids loved them for their intense flavor and chewy texture.

They were discontinued and eventually rebranded multiple times.

Shock Tarts became SweeTARTS Extreme Chewy Sours. However, many fans say the new brand lacks the original’s flavor.

MCDONALD’S SNACK WRAPS

McDonald’s introduced the snack wrap in 2006. It was a tortilla-wrapped sandwich of chicken, cheese, lettuce, and sauce. The wrap was designed for customers wanting a lighter lunch or a snack in between meals.

Though trendy, the Snack Wrap was discontinued in the United States by 2020 due to underwhelming sales and time-consuming preparation.

You can still find the Snack Wrap in some international markets.

KUDOS BARS

Mars introduced Kudos bars in 1986, which were granola bars coated in chocolate.

They gained popularity in the 1990s as a supposedly (but probably not) healthier alternative to candy bars.

They were discontinued in 2017, as consumers caught on to the grift, seeing the bar as little more than a disguised candy bar.

TACO BELL CARAMEL APPLE EMPANADAS

The Taco Bell Caramel Apple Empanada became a beloved snack at Taco Bell for 15 years.

It was sadly discontinued in 2019.

Despite its popularity, Taco Bell removed the item without explaining it. Nobody knows why, and fans eagerly await its return to the menu.

PIZZARIAS

Pizzarias were innovative snack chips made by Keebler. They were launched in 1991 with great success, earning $75 million in wholesale revenue in their first year and garnering industry awards.

The brand was discontinued in the late 1990s after the sale and breakup of Keebler.

ALTOIDS SOURS

Altoids Sours were brightly colored, intensely sour candies introduced by Mars in 2004. They were available in flavors like raspberry, lime, apple, tangerine, and mango.

They were put in the grave in February 2010 due to low national demand.

PHILADELPHIA CHEESECAKE SNACK BARS

Kraft introduced Philadelphia Cheesecake Snack Bars to store shelves in 1999. These graham cracker-based treats contain creamy cheesecake filling in various flavors.

The treats were trendy; however, they were discontinued in 2004-2005 due to manufacturing challenges.

RICE KRISPIES TREATS CEREAL

In 1993, Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats Cereal was introduced. It first featured clusters of Rice Krispies bound with a marshmallow coating. However, in 2019, it changed its recipe, replacing the clusters with standard Rice Krispies and dehydrated marshmallows.

The cereal was ultimately discontinued in 2021 as the consumers were unhappy with the change.

KEEBLER MAGIC MIDDLES COOKIES

Magic Middles were beloved shortbread cookies with fudge centers. These snacks were introduced by Keebler in the late 1980s, gaining popularity throughout the early 1990s.

They were discontinued after Keebler was acquired by Kellogg’s in 2001. Citing that Kellogg’s wanted to “keep our product line interesting” as some bizarre explanation.

ALPHA-BITS

Alpha-Bits was a cereal consisting of frosted alphabet-shaped multi-grain bits. It was introduced by Post Consumer Brands in 1957.

It was a popular breakfast snack for over six decades.

The cereal was discontinued in October 2021 due to intense competition in the cereal aisle.

DEEP FRIED MCDONALD’S APPLE PIE

McDonald’s put fried apple pies on the menu in the 1960s. The snack was a crispy, indulgent dessert that became a beloved menu item.

However, in 1992, the fast food chain discontinued the fried version in most locations, switching to the baked alternative we know today.

ICE BREAKERS LIQUID ICE

Ice Breakers Liquid Ice was a liquid-filled mint launched by the Hershey Company in 2003. It was pretty popular initially but was discontinued in 2004.

People really didn’t like its intense flavor and bitterness.

SKITTLES BUBBLE GUM

Skittles Bubble Gum was introduced in 2004 as a gumball version of the popular fruit-flavored candy.

The gum struggled to gain traction in the market despite a better version launched in 2006.

Skittles gum was ultimately discontinued in 2010 due to poor sales.

HERSHEY’S KISSABLES

Hershey’s Kissables was a chocolate candy product sold by The Hershey Company from 2005 to 2009. They were shaped like miniature Hershey’s Kisses and coated in a thick sugar shell.

They were discontinued in July 2009. In 2007, ingredient changes made to make a cheaper product caused huge controversy. The new recipe failed the FDA’s standards for real milk chocolate.

TRIX YOGURT

Trix yogurt, introduced by Yoplait in 1992, was a popular children’s yogurt snack featuring bright, dual-colored swirls in fruity flavors.

It was discontinued in 2016 because parents wanted to give their kids more nutritious alternatives like Greek Yogurt. It was later reintroduced in 2021 with a limited flavor selection to capitalize on nostalgia, but it was put in the dustbin of history shortly after.

ROWNTREE’S SECRET CHOCOLATE BAR

Secret was a chocolate bar manufactured by Rowntree Mackintosh in the 1980s and 1990s. It featured a bird’s nest-styled chocolate coating with a creamy mousse center.

It was discontinued a few years after its memorable 1990 television advertisement. Its production costs became too high, and people stopped buying it.

TOFFO

Toffo was a famous British toffee brand first produced by Mackintosh’s. It was available in various flavors and known for its distinctive roll packaging.

It was discontinued in 2005 due to declining sales. However, it was briefly resurrected by Nestlé in a limited capacity for the UAE market.

GALAXY TRUFFLES

Galaxy Truffles were individually wrapped chocolates that were part of Celebrations boxes from the brand’s launch in 1997 until 2011.

They featured a velvety chocolate center with a hard outer shell.

They were discontinued in 2011 when Mars replaced them with Twix chocolates in Celebrations boxes.
